Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has reportedly indicated that he will withdraw the announcement to make Gairsain the third commissionerate in Uttarakhand.
The announcement was made by former Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.
Tirath Singh Rawat said that the announcement is under consideration and the issuance of a Government Order to that end has been put on hold. He is in isolation after he tested positive for Covid-19.
Tirath Singh Rawat is quoted as saying: “I am mulling over Gairsain commissionerate and I will take a decision as per the public sentiments. Gairsain commissionerate has not been okayed yet. I will do what the public wants. You should understand from this only… government order has not been issued. It is on hold… I will do nothing against public voices.”
The announcement was made on 4 March during the budget session in Gairsain in the state Assembly. Gairsain was announced as a new administrative division of the state and a third commissionerate — the other two being Kumaon and Garhwal.
The announcement made by Trivendra Singh Rawat saw strong opposition from members of the opposition as well as his own cabinet, speeding the event of change of power in the state.
