Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast officially inaugurated its electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on 4 August. The facility is located within the SIPCOT Industrial Park and marks a significant milestone in VinFast’s global expansion strategy,The Print reported.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin presided over the inauguration ceremony and signed the first VF7 premium electric SUV to roll off the assembly line. The event was attended by VinFast Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau and senior officials from the Tamil Nadu government. The rollout of the VF7 model from the plant signifies the operational launch of VinFast’s third manufacturing facility globally, and its first in India.

VinFast described the move as a reinforcement of its long-term commitment to India, now the world’s third-largest automobile market. The company said it views India as a key player in shaping the future of the global EV industry and intends to use the new plant as a base for deeper integration into the South Asian and international markets.

The investment is expected to generate substantial employment in the region and support Tamil Nadu’s ambition to become a leading EV manufacturing hub in Asia. This development aligns with the state’s ongoing efforts to attract high-value investments in green mobility and advanced technologies.
