In a significant step towards improving voter services, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure the delivery of Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) within 15 days of any update in the electoral rolls.
This includes new enrolments as well as modifications in existing voter details.
The initiative is part of a broader push to modernise and streamline electoral services.
A key highlight of the new system is the end-to-end real-time tracking mechanism.
Voters will now be notified via SMS at every stage — from EPIC generation by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) to its final delivery by the Department of Posts (DoP).
This will ensure greater transparency and accountability in the distribution process.
The module replaces the earlier delivery mechanism with a re-engineered, workflow-optimised system.
Crucially, DoP’s Application Programming Interface (API) is now linked to ECINet, enabling seamless, secure EPIC delivery.
The Commission emphasized that the move reflects its continued commitment to enhancing the efficiency and responsiveness of electoral services.
Over the last four months, the ECI has introduced several reforms aimed at improving the experience of electors and streamlining administrative processes.
