Tesla CEO and Twitter owner Elon Musk on Tuesday (20 June) said that he had a "very good" conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York.
He added that the electric vehicle manufacturer will make efforts to be in India "as soon as humanly possible."
On Twitter, Musk said that company "does not have a choice but to obey local governments".
"If we don't obey local government laws, we will get shut down so the best we can do is to work close to the law in any given country, it is impossible for us to do more than that,"
"We will do our best to provide the freest speech that is possible under the law," Musk said.
When asked about his meeting with PM Modi, Musk told reporters that it was "excellent" and a "very good conversation." He also revealed his plans to visit India next year.
In response to a question about when Tesla will come to India, Musk stated, "I am confident Tesla will be in India and will do so as soon as humanly possible."
“We don’t want to jump the gun on an announcement, but it’s quite likely that there will be a significant investment and relationship in the future," he said in response to a follow-up question.
Commenting on a tweet by PM Modi, Musk said that it was an honour to meet him.
PM Modi responded to Musk's tweet by saying, "Great meeting you today Elon Musk. We had multifaceted conversations on issues ranging from energy to spirituality".
