The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has advanced its plan to establish a mini sports complex in every city zone as part of preparations for Ahmedabad’s potential role in hosting the 2036 Olympics, reported Desh Gujarat.
On Friday (8 August), the AMC’s road and building committee approved proposals worth over Rs 125 crore, including a Rs 32.61-crore complex in Naroda and a Rs 32.72-crore facility in Nikol.
Earlier, in June and July, the committee sanctioned mini complexes in Gota for Rs 30.49 crore and Ghuma for Rs 41.92 crore.
AMC aims to complement these facilities with five large sports complexes in Gota, Bopal–Ghuma, Ranip, Naroda, and Nikol, with an estimated budget between Rs 200 crore and Rs 250 crore.
AMC’s initiative aligns with the city’s growing sports ambitions, following the Indian Olympic Association’s approval of India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad proposed as the host city.
By pushing forward these projects, the civic body intends to boost both local sports participation and global event readiness.
