India has firmly rejected Pakistan's claims that New Delhi played a role in the recent violence in the neighbouring country, including the latest train hijacking carried out by Baloch rebels.
Issuing a sharp response, India rebuffed Pakistan’s insinuations that it was stoking unrest in Balochistan, a province witnessing a decade-long freedom movement.
New Delhi reiterated that Pakistan should focus on its internal issues rather than blaming others, reaffirming its longstanding position that Islamabad remains a hub for terrorism.
"We strongly reject the baseless allegations made by Pakistan. The whole world knows where the epicenter of global terrorism lies. Pakistan should look inwards instead of pointing fingers and shifting the blame for its own internal problems and failures on to others," read a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs, NDTV reported.
India’s reaction followed remarks from a senior Pakistani official, who accused New Delhi of “sponsoring terrorism” and attempting to destabilise the region.
The accusation came after the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked the Jaffar Express during its 30-hour journey from Quetta to Peshawar.
The attack resulted in the deaths of 21 hostages and four security personnel.
He stated that the BLA rebels remained in communication with their handlers in Afghanistan throughout the hijacking.
In response to a question on whether Pakistan had altered its stance on blaming India for BLA-linked violence, Khan refuted any change, insisting that Islamabad still holds New Delhi responsible.
"There is no shift in our policy. And again, the facts have not changed. India is involved in sponsoring terrorism against Pakistan. What I was referring to was, in this particular incident, we have evidence of calls being traced to Afghanistan. This is what I said," the Pakistani official told reporters.
Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest and least populated province, remains a hotspot for insurgent activity.
The BLA, one of several rebel groups operating in the mineral-rich region, has been engaged in an armed struggle for independence since being forcefully merged with Pakistan after the 1947 Partition.
