AAP leaders (L to R) Gopal Rai, Sandeep Pathak and Atishi declare Lok Sabha candidates
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday (27 February) declared four candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Delhi and one candidate from Haryana. Notably, all these seats currently have a BJP MP.
Somnath Bharti will contest from New Delhi, Sahiram Pahalwan from South Delhi, Mahabal Mishra from West Delhi, Kuldeep Kumar Monu from East Delhi and Sushil Gupta will contest from Haryana's Kurukshetra.
Of them, three are sitting MLAs from an Assembly segment that falls under respective Lok Sabha constituencies, for which they have been nominated. Bharti is the MLA from Malviya Nagar, Pahalwan from Tughlakabad and Kuldeep from Kondli.
Mahabal Mishra is the oldest among the declared candidates at 70 years of age. He earlier won the Lok Sabha elections from West Delhi in 2009 on a Congress ticket and has become MLA multiple times.
The announcement comes a few days after a seat-sharing deal between the Congress and the AAP was finalised under INDI Alliance. It was decided that AAP would contest four of seven Delhi seats and one of Haryana's 10 seats.
AAP will contest a total of 23 seats in five states, of which five candidates were announced earlier, two from Gujarat and three from Assam, and another five were announced today.
