AAP Government Under Fire Over Widespread Waterlogging In Delhi Amid Heavy Rains

Delhi-NCR received heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the early hours of Friday (28 June) causing widespread waterlogging and inundating roads throughout the region.
According to the Meteorological Department, Delhi received 228 mm of rainfall from 8.30 am yesterday to 8.30 am today, marking the highest 24-hour rainfall in June since 1936, when 235.5 mm of rain was recorded.
The deluge significantly impacted daily life in Delhi-NCR region, with commuters facing severe waterlogging and traffic jams during their commute.
This unprecedented rainfall has highlighted the shortcomings in the city's infrastructure.
Despite claims by Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on 18 June that the city was prepared for the monsoon, the first significant rain of the monsoon has already caused substantial waterlogging.
Shelly Oberoi had previously assured that the storm drains were clean and ready, promising a hassle-free monsoon for Delhi residents, NDTV reported.
Meanwhile, the Delhi BJP has slammed the MCD and Delhi government, both run by the Aam Aadmi Party, for the chaos in the national capital.
"The Aam Aadmi Party has only one goal: to lie and keep the public in the dark. We had already warned that the Delhi, which was craving for every drop of water, will eventually face issues like waterlogging, but the corrupt Delhi government and municipal corporation, true to their habits, did not think about the public," Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said.
"The Kejriwal government of AAP is fully responsible for the deplorable condition of Delhi," he added.
"When waterlogging has already started with the onset of the rains, it is certain that further difficulties lie ahead. Even the minister's residence is waterlogged, which gives an idea of the overall situation in Delhi," Sachdeva said.
