The Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday announced the implementation of the New National Education Policy (NEP-2020) in the state.

With this, Madhya Pradesh became the second state in the country to implement NEP-2020 after Karnataka.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Governor Mangubhai C. Patel and Higher Education Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav formally launched the NEP-2020.

Speaking on the occasion, Chouhan said, "The aim of education is to impart knowledge, skills and values of citizenship. This NEP-2020 allows you to study Physics and Chemistry as well as become a scholar of Hindi or Sanskrit."

Chouhan said that we will utilise all possible means to impart skills to our students, so that they can have access to the top jobs within and outside the country. He further emphasised on the need to prepare such children to become job creators, and not job-seekers.

He also advised the vice-chancellors of the state's universities to not remain confined to their own universities, adding that they should monitor and direct the implementation of the NEP 2020 in educational institutions across the state.

During the launch of the NEP 2020, Higher Education Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav asserted that the new education policy will break all the shackles and help students explore outside their boundaries.

He said, “Earlier, a student had to study prescribed subjects as per the course, but now they can choose the subjects of their interest.”

Yadav pointed out that the NEP 2020 also focuses on National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC) and many skill-based subjects.

The minister said that the government intends to implement the NEP-2020 within four years in the entire state, which includes 16 government universities and 40 private universities.

He further informed that the government, in order to open new avenues for students, will be introducing agricultural science as a subject in Vikram University and Rani Durgavati University.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan congratulated Madhya Pradesh on the implementation of the NEP-2020, and stated that "NEP will be the key to realising aspirations and empowering the students and youth of the state."
