The Lok Sabha has seen a no-trust motion being filed against the Narendra Modi-led government by Congress.

This comes as the ongoing ethnic clashes in Manipur continue to cause a deadlock in Parliament since the start of the Monsoon Session on July 20.

A separate no-confidence motion has been filed by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which is not part of the 'I.N.D.I.A' coalition.

While the opposition parties' no-confidence motion is expected to fail in terms of numbers, they argue that they can still win the perception battle by focusing on the Manipur issue during the debate.

Opposition parties believe that making the prime minister address Parliament on the crucial matter is a strategic move, despite the government's insistence that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will respond to the debate on the Manipur situation.

Protests and sloganeering by opposition members in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have led to multiple adjournments of the two Houses since the start of the monsoon session of Parliament on July 20.

While the government has expressed willingness to discuss Manipur, the opposition parties are insisting on a discussion that includes voting, causing a deadlock.
