In a significant development likely to influence political alignments in Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu, President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and former Chief Minister, is set to engage in discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday (7 Wednesday) evening as pr a report by Times of India.
The same reports indicate that the outcome of this meeting will determine the prevailing uncertainty regarding alliances.
Should negotiations between the long-standing associates yield positive results, the TDP is anticipated to rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), according to insider reports.
The TDP leadership had been anticipating communication from the BJP high command following the scheduled parliamentary board meeting on 9 February.
However, the invitation for talks has arrived earlier than expected, now preceding the said meeting.
Within the TDP ranks, it is disclosed that both parties will present their respective proposals regarding the alliance during the forthcoming discussion.
Following the announcement of an alliance between the TDP and Janasena, discussions regarding seat allocation between Naidu and Pawan Kalyan have been ongoing.
Preliminary agreements regarding the distribution of seats were reached during two rounds of talks held last Sunday.
However, the finalisation of seat allotments has been postponed due to uncertainties surrounding the BJP's potential involvement in the alliance.
The political landscape in Andhra Pradesh has taken an intriguing turn with Janasena forging an alliance with the TDP while maintaining a rapport with the BJP.
Concurrently, the BJP is adopting a cautious stance, monitoring developments in Andhra Pradesh closely. Internal divisions within the BJP state unit regarding participation in the TDP-Janasena coalition have impeded a decisive course of action.
Insiders within the BJP have revealed that the party aims to secure representation from all states.
The central leadership will make a decision based on the acceptability of the alliance terms and the assurance of sufficient representation. Given past experiences with the TDP, the BJP's high command is exercising prudence in finalising the terms of the alliance, sources suggest.
