Assam Rifles Sends Back Myanmarese Soldiers Who Fled To Mizoram, Myanmar Army's Pick-Up Plane Crash Lands Injuring Six

Myanmarese soldiers seeking refuge in Mizoram was a common thing, however, India has now sent back 184 of them, according to an official quoted by The Hindu on Tuesday (23 January).
Assam Rifles officials said that a total of 276 Myanmarese soldiers had entered Mizoram last week after gunfights, and of them, 184 were repatriated yesterday and the remaining 92 will be sent back today.
This comes after the Mizoram government had informed the central government of this influx and urged prompt action to repatriate these soldiers, who came amid the escalating conflict between Myanmar's rebel forces and its junta regime.
However, a disruption occurred in sending them back when a Myanmar Army plane, which came to pick up these soldiers, crash-landed at Mizoram's Lengpui airport, injuring six of the 14 people on board.
The Myanmarese soldiers had entered Mizoram through the southernmost Lawngtlai district's Bandukbanga village with arms and ammunition on 17 January and approached the Assam Rifles.
They came after their bases were overtaken by the Arakan Army (AA), an ethnic insurgent group in Myanmar's Rakhine state and the Assam Rifles was helping them on humanitarian grounds.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced earlier that the Centre plans to fence the India-Myanmar border, similar to the existing barricade along the Bangladesh border, to control unrestricted entry into the country.
