News Brief
Kripashankar Singh
In an interesting development, former Maharashtra Congress leader Kripashankar Singh has been given a BJP ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh.
While Singh has represented Mumbai Suburban districts's Kalina in the Maharashtra Assembly and been a Minister of State in Maharashtra's Home Affairs department in 2004, he has been sent to UP.
This is because he was born in UP's Jaunpur, where his ancestral village is. Going back to his roots, Singh has been given the Jaunpur Lok Sabha seat to contest, which is currently represented by BSP's Shyam Singh Yadav.
Singh is a Rajput by caste and joined BJP in July 2021, after being a member of Congress for several decades. He was Mumbai president of Congress and during his tenure and helped Congress gain in the 2009 Assembly elections.
He was currently serving as vice-president of BJP's Maharashtra unit and was publicly active in Mumbai only.
