Bengaluru: Days After Neha Hiremath Murder, Amit Shah Blames Congress For 'Emboldening Radical Elements' Across Karnataka

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a roadshow in Bengaluru on Tuesday, criticised the Congress-led Karnataka government's handling of law and order in the state, days after the murder of a councillor’s daughter in Hubballi.
Shah's comments came during a campaign event in Bommanahalli for the sitting MP from Bangalore South and BJP candidate, Tejasvi Surya, just days before the Karnataka polls.
Addressing the gathered crowd, Shah attributed the state government’s alleged failure in law enforcement to the inaction of the Chief Minister, and criticised the Congress for what he said was its support of organisations linked to extremist activities and underscoring the BJP’s commitment to law and order.
"The chief minister’s inaction in addressing law and order is emboldening radical elements across the state to attack innocent citizens,” Shah said, Indian Express reported.
This assertion by Shah comes days after Neha Hiremath, the daughter of Congress Councillor Niranjan Hiremath from the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, was stabbed multiple times by Fayaz Khodunaik on 18 April, leading to her death.
The accused was arrested later, and the case has since been transferred to the Karnataka CID for further investigation.
Amidst slogans supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tejasvi Surya, who is vying for re-election against Congress’s Sowmya Reddy, highlighted security measures implemented in the region.
Surya cited his role in advocating for the establishment of an NIA office in Bengaluru following riots in the city, which he credits with enhancing local counter-terrorism capabilities.
“After the DJ Halli and KG Halli riots a couple of years ago, I met Amit Shah and requested the establishment of an NIA office in Bengaluru. The NIA office has significantly bolstered our counter-terrorism efforts. The investigation into The Rameshwaram Cafe blast case is being spearheaded by them,” said Surya.
He also mentioned the Safe City project, backed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs with a funding of Rs 2,840 crore, aimed at bolstering Bengaluru’s security framework.
