Bengaluru Scores Big On Infra In Karnataka State Budget, Here Are All The Key Announcements

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Thursday (5 March) presented the budget for the financial year 2020-21 in the state Assembly.
In the budget various announcements were made by CM Yediyurappa for the Bengaluru city.
The Chief Minister announced formulation of separate Municipal Corporation Act specific to Bengaluru city. He also announced implementation of an action plan with a grant of Rs 999 crore for Solid Waste Management of Bengaluru city under “Shubhra Bengaluru Scheme”.
Besides, allocation of Rs 417 crore was made in the budget for the comprehensive development of lakes of Bengaluru.
Rs 1,000 crore was allocated for restoration of deteriorated roads of 110 villages merged in the Bengaluru city.
In a bid to generate power from the waste materials, a new “Waste to Energy” power generation centre, capable of generating 70 million units of power annually, will be established at Bidadi of Ramangara district at an expenditure of Rs 210 crore by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited, in partnership with BBMP.
On the connectivity front, the state government is looking to complete metro lines of a total length of 12.8 km on Mysore road up to Kengeri and on Kanakpura road upto Anjanapura cross under the Namma Metro project.
The construction of 56 km long Outer Ring Road-Airport Metro form Central Silk Board Junction to Bengaluru International Airport will also commence at an estimated cost of Rs 14,500 crore.
Besides, a new 44 km-long metro track through public-private partnership is also being planned.
The state government will also provide a grant of Rs 500 crore during the current year for the sub-urban train project. The state government has also decided to incur 50 per cent of the project expenditure for double track project of Byappanahalli-Hosur and Yeshwanthapur-Channasandra.
Besides, the government will give a grant of Rs 500 crore for development of roads having traffic congestion in the jurisdiction of Bengaluru city through Karnataka Road Development Authority (KRDA).
Further, “Bus Priority Lane” will be implemented in 12 corridors having high traffic density.
As many as 2,390 new buses including 890 electric buses are to be added to the fleet of BMTC under various schemes of Centre and state government.
CM Yediyurappa also announced implementation of ‘Underground Vehicle Parking’ project in congested area of the city with private-partnership.
In a bid to provide high speed internet connectivity to all the consumers in the Bengaluru, CM Yediyurappa announced installation of optical fiber network in the city.
Besides, Rs 1,000 crore were allotted for rejuvenation and modernisation of old sewerage treatment plants.
