Bengaluru To Get Two Double-Decker Flyovers Under Namma Metro Phase III Project

As part of the proposed Phase III of the Namma Metro line from J P Nagar Fourth Phase to Kempapura, Bengaluru city will soon have two more road-cum-metro flyovers.
Roads will be on the first level of the flyovers with integrated structures, and a metro corridor will be on the second level.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will build these road-metro flyovers between Kanakapura Road Junction and Kamakya-Itamadu-Hoskerehalli Junction over a distance of 1.366 km and 1.563 km respectively.
The announcement comes just days after Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) would construct triple-deck flyovers — two flyovers and a metro lane — on the city's national highway segments, reports The Hindu.
To reduce traffic congestion, the BBMP and the BMRCL have already agreed on building the road-cum-metro flyover.
This line is expected to be operational by the middle of next year.
Proposed Namma Metro's Phase 3A Project
Corridor One of Phase 3A is proposed as a 32.15 km stretch from J P Nagar 4th Phase on the city's southern side to Kempapura near Hebbal in the northern end. Corridor Two is a 12.5 km stretch from Hosahalli to Kadabgere on Magadi Road.
The line will run along the Outer Ring Road's median.
While the fully-elevated Corridor One will comprise 31 stations, Corridor Two will feature nine stations.
The 44.65-km project, comprising both corridors, will have six interchange points.
Integration of metro stations is planned at J P Nagar 4th phase (part Kalena Agrahara-Nagawara line under phase II), J P Nagar (an operational metro station part of the green line from Silk Institute to Nagasandra), Mysuru Road Station (part of the operational purple line between Kengeri and Baiyappanahalli), Peenya (part of the green line), Kempapura Station (part of ORR-Airport line), The Hindu report added.
Another line connecting Hosahalli and Kadabagere will include an integrated station at Hosahalli (Sri Balagangadharanatha Swamiji Metro Station), which will be part of the operational Purple Line.
For Corridor One, metro stations are planned at J P Nagar (IV, V phases), Kamakhya Bus Depot, PES Institute of Technology, Nagarbhavi Circle, Sumanahalli Cross, Hosakerehalli Cross, Kanteerava Studio, Peenya, BEL Circle, Mysuru Road, and Hebbal on the J P Nagar-Hebbal section.
According to BMRCL estimates, the project will cost Rs 16,333 crore and be completed by 2028. The new cost estimates represent an upward revision from an earlier estimate of Rs 13,185 crore.
BMRCL roped in Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for two corridors of the Phase 3A project.
The ongoing Phase 2 and proposed Phase 3 Namma Metro will add at least 211.6 km to the existing network of 42.3 km that has been in operation since 2017 (built under Phase 1).
Another 14 km under Phase 2 was commissioned in 2021, taking the network's total length to 56 km. Two greenfield lines are set to be commissioned in 2023-24 and 2024-25. The K R Puram-Airport line will probably be commissioned by 2025-26.
