As per a latest report, National parties in India collectively reported a significant income of around Rs 3,077 crore for the fiscal year 2022-23.
According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), among these parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged with the highest income, reaching approximately Rs 2,361 crore.
This constituted a substantial 76.73 per cent of the total income earned by the six national parties during the fiscal year.
In its latest report based on records submitted to the Election Commission, the ADR highlighted that the Congress declared the second-highest income of Rs 452.375 crore, representing 14.70 per cent of the total income of the six national parties.
Apart from the BJP and the Congress, the Bahujan Samaj Party, Aam Aadmi Party, National People's Party, and Communist Party of India (Marxist) have also disclosed their income.
Key insights from the declarations include:
- The BJP witnessed a notable increase in income by 23.15 per cent, amounting to Rs 2,360.844 crore during FY 2022-23, compared to Rs 1,917.12 crore in FY 2021-22.
- The income of the National People's Party (NPP) surged by an impressive 1502.12 per cent, reaching Rs 77.562 crore in FY 2022-23 from Rs 4.87 crore in FY 2021-22.
- The Aam Aadmi Party, led by Arvind Kejriwal, also experienced a significant income growth of 91.23 per cent, reaching Rs 785.17 crore during FY 2022-23 from Rs 410.539 crore in FY 2021-22.
- However, the income of the Congress, CPI(M), and BSP saw a decline between FY 2021-22 and FY 2022-23, dropping by 16.42 per cent(Rs 788.90 crore), 12.68 per cent (Rs 20.575 crore), and 33.14 per cent (Rs 14.508 crore), respectively.
Additionally, the ADR highlighted the expenditure patterns of these parties:
- The BJP reported a total income of Rs 2,360.844 crore during FY 2022-23, with an expenditure of only 57.68 per cent, equivalent to ₹1,361.684 crore.
- The Congress declared an income of Rs 453.375 crore, but its expenditure surpassed its income by 3.26 per cent, amounting to Rs 467.135 crore.
- The CPI(M) recorded a total income of Rs 141.661 crore and an expenditure of Rs 106.067 crore, accounting for 74.87 per cent of its income.
- Similarly, the AAP reported an income of Rs 85.17 crore, while its expenditure exceeded its income by 19.82 per cent, totaling Rs 102.051 crore.
