BJP candidates Tamilisai Soundararajan and Annamalai
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday (21 March) released its third candidate list for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with nine names from Tamil Nadu.
Tamilisai Soundararajan, who rejoined BJP just yesterday got the ticket from Chennai South. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has given a ticket to incumbent MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian from here.
Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai is set to contest from Coimbatore while Union Minister of State and former Tamil Nadu BJP president L Murugan will contest from Nilgiris.
TR Paarivendhar will challenge Sriperumbudur incumbent MP TR Baalu and Vinoj P Selvam will challenge incumbent MP Dayanidhi Maran in Chennai Central.
DMK announced all its candidates yesterday. It is contesting in alliance with Congress, which will be contesting nine seats in Tamil Nadu and lone seat in Puducherry.
In 2019, the DMK-led alliance won 38 of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu with DMK winning all 20 seats it contested. This time it will contest 21 seats.
BJP is contesting in alliance with Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), which will contest 10 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that the BJP is getting support in Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu will witness voting in the first phase of elections on 19 April and nomination filing began yesterday. Results will be declared on 4 June.
