State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has taken a significant step towards boosting India's renewable energy capacity by partnering with EverEnviro Resource Management Private Limited, a leading player in the compressed biogas (CBG) sector, to establish CBG plants nationwide.
In a recent meeting, the ONGC board gave in-principle approval for forming joint venture companies with EverEnviro and another undisclosed entity to set up 15 CBG plants, as per a report by The Economic Times.
This partnership is part of a larger initiative to increase domestic renewable energy production, with EverEnviro planning to establish over 100 CBG plants in India.
These plants will use various feedstocks, including municipal solid waste, agro waste, and agro-industrial waste.
EverEnviro is currently leading more than 20 CBG projects in states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Punjab, with an investment of nearly Rs 2,000 crore.
These projects are expected to produce 320 metric tonnes of CBG daily.
Deepak Agarwal, executive director of EverEnviro, expressed his appreciation for partnering with ONGC, one of the Maharatnas of the government of India, to enhance domestic renewable energy production.
He outlined the joint venture's vision to achieve a daily CBG output of 1,000 metric tonnes nationwide within the next five years.
Agarwal emphasised the joint venture's dedication to supporting India's energy transition goals by 2023 and promoting environmental stewardship through reduced carbon emissions.
EverEnviro has already constructed India's largest biogas plant, which converts city waste into clean energy in Indore.
This plant was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2022.
Additionally, the company has partnered with Indraprastha Gas Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited to establish multiple CBG plants across the country.
