News Brief
Kamal Nath, Nakul Nath and Dhirendra Shastri in Chhindwara
Buzz in the political circles is that senior Congress leader Kamal Nath and his son Chhindwara MP Nakul Nath may join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra enters Madhya Pradesh, The New Indian Express reported.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to enter MP from Datia district on 22 February. However, he may not be joined by the Nath father-son duo as Kamal Nath is reportedly disappointed over not being nominated for Rajya Sabha.
He also holds grudges for not being consulted by the party leadership before the Congress nominated Gwalior-Chambal politician Ashok Singh for the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for 27 February.
Rahul Gandhi's Yatra has not proven to be fruitful for the Congress as wherever the Yatra passed, it had issues with its allies, be it in West Bengal, Bihar or Uttar Pradesh. The only solace was Jharkhand.
Notably, the BJP has pledged to win all 28 Lok Sabha seats of Madhya Pradesh in the upcoming election. Currently, 27 MPs are of BJP and the lone Congress MP is Nakul Nath from Chhindwara.
Chhindwara is considered to be Kamal Nath's bastion and the BJP might get him into its fold to win the election. Lately, Kamal Nath has also tried to portray his Hindu image by organising kathas and other religious events in his constituency.
While the speculations are ongoing, former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said in Indore on Thursday, “If Kamal Nath truly believes in development, then he should take Lord Ram’s name and join the BJP.”
A day after this, the state BJP chief VD Sharma welcomed all those Congress leaders who were in pain over not attending the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya to the BJP as the party declined the invitation.
