Congress released its fourth list of candidates on Saturday (23 March) with 46 names including one each from Assam, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and West Bengal.
Maximum names were declared from Madhya Pradesh where former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh is set to contest from Rajgarh, a constituency earlier won by him in 1984 and 1991.
Former Union Minister Kantilal Bhuria is fielded from Ratlam, a seat reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. He has won elections for this seat five times.
Nine candidates were declared from Uttar Pradesh, including former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Danish Ali, who recently joined the Congress. He will contest from Amroha, a seat he won in the 2019 elections.
Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai will contest from Varanasi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, suspense over candidates from Amethi and Rae Bareli continued.
The Congress declared seven candidates from Tamil Nadu dropping two MPs – Jayakumar and A Chellakumar. Five MPs including Karti P Chidambaram and Manickam Tagore have been repeated.
Jayakumar is replaced in Tirvallur by former IAS officer Sasikanth Senthil and Chellakumar in Krishnagiri by K Gopinath. The sitting Arani MP Vishnu Prasad has been shifted to Cuddalore.
Former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat’s son Virender Rawat got a ticket from Hardiwar. He is set to contest against another former CM, BJP's Trivendra Singh Rawat here.
