Defense Minister Rajnath Singh Clears NCC Expansion Proposal, Three Lakh Cadet Vacancies To Be Added: Here's All You Need To Know

In a significant move aimed at meeting the growing demand for the National Cadet Corps (NCC) across educational institutions in India, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has greenlit a proposal to expand the organization by adding three lakh cadet vacancies.
This decision aims to meet the growing demand for NCC enrollment across educational institutions in India.
The expansion will increase the NCC's sanctioned strength from 20,000 cadets in 1948 to 20 lakh cadets, making it the largest uniformed youth organisation globally.
Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, which offers NCC as an elective subject, this expansion recognises the NCC's role in shaping the leadership skills of the youth and grooming them as future leaders of the nation, reported Economic Times.
The expansion plan will also ensure a balanced distribution of vacancies across all states and union territories, addressing the waiting list of institutions eager to enroll in the NCC program.
Additionally, it includes establishing four new Group Headquarters and adding two new NCC units.
An important aspect of the expansion initiative is the proposal to employ ex-servicemen as NCC instructors.
The move aims to ensure high-quality training for NCC cadets while creating employment opportunities for veterans.
Furthermore, as stated by PIB, "The NCC aims to make a transformative impact, fostering an environment where youth meaningfully contribute towards nation building. The initiative will expand the base of motivated, disciplined and patriotic youth of the ‘Amrit Peedhi’ who will contribute towards achieving the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’."
