Delhi Grapples With Severe Air Pollution For Third Straight Day As AQI Dips To 504

Delhi is experiencing a persistently high level of air pollution for the third consecutive day, according to SAFAR-India.
The difficult situation has greatly affected the local residents.
According to SAFAR-India, the air quality index (AQI) for the national capital was 504, which is categorized as 'severe.' At the Indira Gandhi International Airport (T3), the AQI was even higher at 571.
On Saturday, the air quality index (AQI) in Dhirpur, Delhi reached 542, indicating severe pollution levels.
Noida also experienced a similar situation with an AQI of 576, falling into the 'severe' category. In some areas of Noida, such as Sector-116 and Sector 62, the AQI was recorded at 426 and 428 respectively, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board.
Gurugram's air quality was classified as 'severe' with an AQI of 512.
According to the Respirer Report, Delhi experienced the highest levels of PM2.5 (Particulate Matter 2.5) in the country in October. Furthermore, these levels have been steadily increasing since 2021.
In response to the alarming levels of Air Quality Index (AQI) in different areas of Delhi-NCR, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has called upon the Chief Secretaries of the affected states to take immediate action and report back to the Tribunal on the measures implemented.
The NGT emphasized the urgent need for addressing and controlling air pollution in these cities to ensure improved air quality for the residents.
"In response to the deteriorating AQI in the cities, Chief Secretaries of the respective states are urged to take immediate corrective actions and submit a report on the steps taken to the Tribunal," the NGT statement said.
