Dell, Foxconn, HP, Acer, Lenovo Among 27 Firms Granted Approval Under PLI Scheme For Manufacturing Laptops, Tablets, PCs, Servers

The Union Government today (November 18) today announced 27 companies, including Dell, HP, Foxconn, and Lenovo, have been granted approval under the new production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware that covers covers laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, Servers and Ultra Small Form Factor devices.
Building on the stellar success of PLI for mobile phones, the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved PLI Scheme – 2.0 for IT hardware in May 2023.
The budgetary outlay for the PLI scheme is Rs 17,000 crore. The tenure of the programme is 6 years.
"Applications of 27 IT hardware manufacturers have been approved today. IT hardware of well-known brands such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc will be manufactured in India." Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
"About 95 per cent of these...23 companies are ready to start manufacturing from day-zero," Vaishnaw added
"This will set us up for being a big force in manufacturing of PCs, servers, laptops, and tablets," he further added.
The government estimates that PLI scheme will generate 2 lakhs jobs (50,000 direct jobs and about 1.5 lakh indirect jobs)
The PLI scheme is also expected to drive an annual IT hardware production of $42 billion with an expected investment of over $360 million.
