News Brief
The inactivity period for a Google account has been updated to two years.
Google has recently announced that it will be shutting down inactive Gmail accounts.
Users who have rarely accessed their accounts or have not used them in years, will be receiving reminder notices about this.
In an email, Google has explained that it is updating the inactivity period for a Google account to two years, for all its products and services. This change is being implemented starting today (10 August) and will apply to any Google account that has been inactive.
According to Google, an account will be considered inactive if it has not been signed in to or used within two years.
Google has announced that starting from 1 December 2023, any inactive account and its content may be deleted.
In an email, Google stated that although the changes are effective immediately, the earliest enforcement of account deletion would be in December 2023.
If your account is deemed inactive, Google will send multiple reminder emails to both the primary and recovery emails (if provided) before taking any action or deleting any account content.
To keep the Google account active and prevent it from being deleted, all one needs to do is, log in once every two years. As long as it has been signed in within the last two years, the account will be considered active and safe.
Google understands the importance of making it easy for users to maintain their active accounts, the company assured.
They have also assured that they will provide ample notice before implementing any changes that may impact any account, ensuring a smooth transition for users.
