India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has recently spoken to Iran and the Israeli foreign ministers simultaneously amidst escalating tensions between the two nations.

EAM S Jaishankar on his X handle stated, "Spoke to Iranian FM @Amirabdolahian this evening. Took up the release of 17 Indian crew members of MSC Aries. Discussed the current situation in the region. Stressed the importance of avoiding escalation, exercising restraint and returning to diplomacy. Agreed to remain in touch."

An hour later, Jaishankar again posted, informing about his conversation with his Israeli counterpart.

He stated, "Just concluded a conversation with Israel FM @Israel_katz. Shared our concern at the developments yesterday. Discussed the larger regional situation. Agreed to stay in touch."

In a connected development, Iran's foreign ministry has confirmed that Indian government officials will be allowed to meet the 17 Indian crew members onboard an Israel-linked cargo ship seized by Iran.

In response to Jaishankar's request for assistance, Hossein Amir Abdollahian stated that Iran is actively following up on the details of the seized ship and will soon allow representatives of the Indian government to meet with the crew.

India has been in contact with Iran since the ship's capture on Saturday (13 April) to secure the release of the crew members.

Jaishankar has also emphasised the importance of avoiding escalation and exercising restraint amidst escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.

The Ministry of External Affairs of India has expressed serious concern over the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran, emphasising the need for immediate de-escalation, restraint, and a return to diplomacy to ensure peace and security in the region.
