News Brief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A day after talking to Basirhat BJP candidate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation with another BJP candidate in West Bengal, Rajmata Amrita Roy on Wednesday (27 March).
PM Modi asked Roy about her electoral campaign and said that he is exploring legal options to ensure that the money looted from the poor in West Bengal goes back to them.
Roy is challenging Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra in Krishnanagar, who was expelled from the parliament over allegations of receiving bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani.
Roy told PM that the people are saying that Moitra will go to jail. She also highlighted the hardships faced by the common people under TMC rule due to corruption in recruitment and other schemes.
Responding to it, Modi said, "ED (Enforcement Directorate) has attached around Rs 3,000 crore in Bengal. This is poor people's money. I want to make legal provisions to return this money."
He asked Roy to spread this word to the public. He also expressed that people in Bengal are supporting the BJP in large numbers and assured his support to Roy.
Modi said that Roy is carrying the legacy of Raja Krishnachand Rai. Responding to it, Roy shared the allegations made by TMC that the king betrayed India by colluding with Britishers.
"He did so much for the welfare of the people but they are not talking about it. If he had not taken such steps, Sanatana Dharma would have been destroyed," Roy said defending her ancestor.
"We would not have been Hindu. Our language and clothing would have been different. We would be subordinate to others," Roy added. PM Modi asked her to ignore the opposition's comments.
