Ranked 106th in the world, India faces Asian champions Qatar on 21 November in Bhubaneswar.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the third round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers and secure a spot in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
India's historic advancement to the third round hinges on their upcoming match against Qatar.
The Blue Tigers had previously defeated Kuwait (ranked 149th) in the SAFF Championships final in July, setting the stage for a potential milestone in the ongoing FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
