Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has officially withdrawn from the presidential race, throwing his support behind former President Donald Trump just days ahead of the New Hampshire primary.

This leaves former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley as Trump's primary challenger for the Republican nomination.

Earlier, Indian American Vivek Ramaswamy, an early contender, had exited the race after loss in Iowa caucuses.

In a video posted on social media, DeSantis endorsed Trump and took a shot at Haley.

"He has my endorsement because we can't go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear: a re-packaged form of warmed-over corporatism that Nikki Haley represents," he said.

It's noteworthy that Trump currently holds a substantial lead over Haley in New Hampshire, according to polls, and aims for a win to solidify his nomination.

The former president also maintains a lead in South Carolina.

Meanwhile, At a campaign event in Seabrook, New Hampshire, Nikki Haley drew cheers when she announced that DeSantis had dropped out.

"For now, I'll leave you with this: May the best woman win," she said.

The winner of this year's Republican nominating contests will take on President Joe Biden, the Democratic Presidential nominee.
