Gautam Gambhir, currently the mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2024, is reportedly interested in replacing Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian cricket team.

This move has raised questions about whether Gambhir, who has been actively involved in politics is now shifting his focus entirely back to cricket, to become the head coach.

Gambhir has also served as Member of Parliament from East Delhi constituency on a BJP ticket but announced his departure from active politics ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intensifies its search for the new head coach of the men's national team, several renowned former cricketers have been considered.

According to a report by NDTV, Gambhir is keen on taking up the role, despite this being his first year as KKR's mentor. However, the former India batter has a crucial condition: he will only apply if he is guaranteed the position.

Should Gambhir apply and be selected, he would need to step down from his role with the KKR.

The former left-handed batter, who led KKR to two IPL victories as captain, has been credited for the franchise's resurgence this year. KKR's strong performance in IPL 2024 has significantly bolstered Gambhir's reputation as a potential head coach for India.

Gambhir's potential transition from being ace batsman to politics, and now again back to cricket coaching adds an intriguing dimension to his career. Known for his outspoken nature and commitment to public service, his shift to coaching would mark a significant change.
