Haldwani Locality Emerges As Uttarakhand’s Covid-19 Hotspot: How Local Administration Is Fighting The Spread Of Virus

Last week, Uttarakhand Police had warned that attendees of the gathering at Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi, which emerged as a Covid-19 hotspot, will be booked for ‘murder’ and ‘attempt to murder’ in case they failed to report to the authorities by 6 April.

The number of infected Jamaatis has escalated in the state, and with that, an area in Haldwani has come to the spotlight.

Banbhoolpura area in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, is in focus as an emerging hotspot. The local administration and health department are taking strict measures to curb the spread of coronavirus in the fight against Covid-19.

According to a report in Amar Ujala, 17 people have been quarantined in the area within 12 hours after seven members of the Tablighi Jamaat have been found to be positive.

The police, on advice of the health department, have sent 12 people on quarantine. People in eight homes have been put under home quarantine.

No shops will be open in the area, which has been divided into five sectors by the police for measures related to the fight against the coronavirus spread. No one can enter the area without permission of the authorities.

People will be supplied essential goods at the doorstep with the help of a local team. An additional company of PAC has been deployed in the area and all 41 routes and roads have been closed.

According to this Hindustan Times report, two Jamaatis were found Covid-19 positive in Jwalapur, Haridwar. Out of the four people found positive for coronavirus on Wednesday (8 April), are the two Jamaatis from Jwalapur and one from Haldwani.

Out of the 31 positive cases until Wednesday (8 April), the number of Jamaatis among the positive cases was 24.

In Haldwani, six people were booked "for asking a fruit vendor from the minority community to shut shop in the wake of five members of Tablighi Jamaat testing positive for coronavirus disease Covid-19," the HT report says.
