In a recent development, Swami Prasad Maurya, the National Secretary of the Samajwadi Party, has once again found himself embroiled in controversies due to his statements often perceived as anti-Hindu and anti-Sanatan.
This time, Maurya has stirred the pot by making comments against Hinduism, claiming it to be a betrayal.
"Hindu ek dhokha hai...RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat has said twice that there is no religion called Hindu but instead, it is a way of living. Prime Minister Modi has also said that there is no Hindu religion...Sentiments don't get hurt when these people make such statements but if Swami Prasad Maurya says the same, it causes unrest...", said Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya.
He further criticised the term "Hinduism," stating, "What we call Hinduism is a business for some people. When I say this, it hurts people's sentiments, but when PM Modi and Mohan Bhagwat say it, no one is offended."
This is not the first time Swami Prasad Maurya has made controversial statements regarding Hinduism.
His remarks have previously sparked debates and led to criticism.
It's noteworthy that his recent comments come in the wake of a Brahmin community gathering organised by the Samajwadi Party, where Akhilesh Yadav, the party chief, also participated.
Brahmin leaders, without naming anyone, expressed dissatisfaction over Maurya's controversial statements and complained about him in front of Akhilesh Yadav.
While acknowledging the complaint, Akhilesh Yadav emphasised that making inappropriate comments about any religion or caste is not justified.
This incident adds fuel to the ongoing debate about political leaders making statements on religious and caste issues.
