Indian Army's 16 Bihar Regiment That Gave Chinese Army A Bloody Nose To Be Replaced By 1 Bihar At Galwan Valley

Indian Army's 16 Bihar regiment, which gave a tough fight to Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) at Galwan valley last month, has completed its tenure in eastern Ladakh and will be moving out from its forward location to a peacetime location, reports Economic Times.
After their commanding officer (CO) Colonel Santosh Babu was killed by PLA troops in a hand-to-hand fight in Ladakh's Galwan valley on 15 June, the soldiers of 16 Bihar along with the Ghatak commandoes had launched a 'merciless' counter-attack in which many Chinese Army personnel, including their commanding officer, was killed.
Besides 16 Bihar, troops of 3 Punjab Regiment and forward observers from artillery regiments posted in the area were also involved in the clash.
In the clash, 20 Indian soldiers, including Colonel Babu, were killed while 78 others were injured. The number of those dead and injured on Chinese side was not released by the PLA. However, according to reports, the Chinese PLA suffered over 40 casualties.
The 16 Bihar regiment is now moving to a peacetime location after completing their tenure in the forward location. The regiment will be replaced by Indian Army's 1 Bihar regiment.
The 16 Bihar was scheduled to leave the Galwan area in April but due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the movement was delayed, sources were quoted as saying.
According to the report, the peace location to which the unit is being shifted is Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the first phase of disengagement between armies of India and China at friction points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh has been completed and the talks for the second phase is expected to begin in next few days.
