India's Vision 2047 For Roads: Highway Network Of 2 Lakh Km; 50,000 Km Of Access-Controlled Highways In Next 13 Years

The Indian government aims to expedite the construction of national highways, including high-speed access-controlled roads, to establish a world-class road network by 2037.
This initiative seeks to enhance efficiency, reduce logistical costs, and support India's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, according to a report from The Economic Times.
The plan involves expanding the national highway network to over 2 lakh kilometres, from the current 1.46 lakh kilometres.
This includes a significant increase in access-controlled highways, which are set to rise to 50,000 kilometres from the current 4,000 kilometres, over the next 13 years.
Additionally, the government aims to reduce road accidents by 95 per cent over the next 25 years.
"Under Vision 2047, the objective is to complete the construction of necessary national highways by 2037. A robust road infrastructure is crucial and will have a far-reaching impact in the subsequent 10 years, facilitating India's achievement of the vision of a developed India by 2047," an official was quoted saying.
The focus is on improving logistics efficiency in the country to meet global standards through the development of more access-controlled highways and high-speed corridors.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is awaiting cabinet approval to commence work on new projects in alignment with Vision 2047, the official added.
