Indore's BRTS Set To Become India's First Green Transport Corridor With Electric Buses

In a pioneering initiative in the country, Indore city's Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor is set to become exclusively serviced by electric buses, announced municipal commissioner Harshika Singh on Thursday (22 February), according to a report from The Economic Times.
Singh informed reporters that all diesel buses currently operating along the 11.45 km route will be phased out and replaced with electric buses, making the BRTS corridor a unique green transport initiative in India.
While she did not specify the timeline for this transition, Singh confirmed that the decision had been formally adopted as policy.
Singh stated, "We are going to make BRTS a first-of-its-kind green transport corridor in the country."
Singh disclosed that Indore Municipal Corporation has already procured 10 electric buses, with plans to purchase approximately 40 more shortly.
Currently, 49 public transport buses operate daily on the BRTS route between Niranjanpur intersection and Rajiv Gandhi square, catering to around 50,000 passengers.
