Thousands of activists belonging to Islami Andolon Bangladesh marched towards the Indian High Commission to register their protest against the allegedly hurtful remarks made by two former BJP spokespersons against Mohammed, regarded by Muslims as their last prophet.

The rally, led by Islami Andolan Bangladesh chief Charmonai Pir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, started at the north gate of Dhaka's Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

The protestors demanded that a resolution be passed in the country's Parliament condemning the remarks made by the former BJP spokespersons . They also demanded that Indian ambassador be summoned.

The protesting activists also demanded the arrest of former BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal.

The protest created traffic congestion stalling vehicular movement around the Baitul Mukarram area and adjacent areas.

Police blocked the Islami Andolan Bangladesh-led protest march when it reached the capital's Shantinagar area. Later, a five-member delegation of the organisation left to hand over a memorandum to the Indian High Commission.

Islami Andolan Bangladesh ('Islamic Movement of Bangladesh') is one of the biggest Islamist political party in Bangladesh. Originally founded in 1987 by Fazlul Karim as Islami Shashontantra Andolan (Islamic Constitutional Movement), the party has often campaigned in favour of a blasphemy law.

In 2019, thousands of activists of the outfit gathered at the Dhaka's Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Friday Jumah prayers protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) in India
