Karnataka: After Hanuman Flag, Controversy Erupts Over 'Green Flag' In Bengaluru's Shivajinagar

A 'green flag' fluttering in Bengaluru's Shivajinagar area has become a source of controversy, triggering demands for immediate action from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The issue rose amid an ongoing dispute over the removal of a saffron Hanuman flag in Mandya district.
Earlier, the situation in Karnataka's Keragodu village of Mandya district became tense after the police force brought down the Hanuman flag hoisted by the Gram Panchayat Board on a 108-foot flagpole on Sunday (28 January).
Protesting against it, the BJP's Karnataka unit, along with its new ally Janata Dal (Secular), launched a padayatra (foot march). However, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused the BJP of politicising the issue.
After the flag was brought down, the Chief Minister said, "It is not right to fly the saffron flag instead of the national flag. They should have hoisted the national flag."
Speaking on the latest controversy, BJP's Basanagouda R Patil Yatnal raised concerns about the green flag, sharing a post on social media and questioning its presence in Shivajinagar.
“Is it not against our flag code to fly a green flag similar to the color of an enemy country in a public area? Immediately, remove this and fly the national flag here. Shivajinagar is in India, not Pakistan,” Yatnal said as he tagged Bengaluru Police Commissioner in the post.
The development comes amid the timing when the political confrontation between the Congress government and the opposition BJP-JD(S) over the Mandya incident has yet to die down.
