Karnataka: BJP Worker Arrested For 'Derogatory Remark' Against CM Siddaramaiah Over Congress's Response To Udupi Video Case

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Shakuntala H S was released on station bail on 28 July after being arrested by the Bengaluru Police on Friday.
She was accused of making a derogatory remark against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s family in relation to the Udupi video case.
In a tweet about the Udupi video case, Shakuntala, a BJP worker, questioned Siddaramaiah about his reaction if his wife or daughter-in-law were filmed in a similar manner as the girls from Udupi college.
This tweet led to a complaint being filed against her.
The complaint was filed by an individual named Hanmantray at the high ground police station.
Following this complaint, the High Grounds Police filed an FIR and promptly arrested Shakuntala.
Shakuntala's tweet was in response to a post by the Congress party regarding the Udupi video case, where they accused the BJP of politicising the issue and referring to it as basically a "fun prank".
Shakuntala expressed her concerns on Twitter about the Congress claiming that young Muslim women placing a camera in the toilet and recording Hindu girls was just a mere prank.
She further questioned whether the Congress would still consider it a child's play if it happened to someone from Siddaramaiah's family.
After her arrest, Ravikumar, the former Higher Education Minister and BJP MLC, went to the High Grounds Police Station to speak with her about the case.
Ravikumar voiced his opinion on the government's actions, stating that they were instilling fear among BJP workers and their social media team.
He also mentioned that Congress frequently tweets about various issues and that they would file complaints against them. He urged the police to take appropriate action. Additionally, he questioned how many times the Congress had tweeted against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In relation to the Udupi video case, 15 members of the BJP Yuva Morcha have been charged with another FIR for attempting to surround the residence of the Karnataka Home Minister in protest.
Reacting to the incident, Home Minister G Parameshwara stated, "They tried to surround my residence, perhaps hoping to gain attention through this action."
