Karnataka Has Saved Over 20,000 Cattle From Illegal Slaughter Since The Implementation Of Prohibition Of Cow Slaughter Act

Over 20,000 cattle have been saved from the butcher’s knife in Karnataka since the act prohibiting their slaughter came into action.
As reported by Hindustan Times, Karnataka’s Animal Husbandry Minister Prabhu Chauhan provided this information regarding the impact of the implementation of the Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act in the state.
As quoted by the said report, Chauhan said more than 900 FIRs had been filed in the state for illegal transport and slaughter of cows and banned animals since its implementation.
”The prohibition of cow slaughter Act, establishment of Animal Welfare Board, establishment of Animal Helpline Centre, recruitment of 400 veterinary doctors, recruitment of 250 cattle inspectors, cow Mata Cooperative Society, Punyakoti Adoption Project and the work of conversion into self-reliant cowsheds is the first in the country in the state,” said Chauhan.
Chauhan had appealed to Muslims in the state to refrain from sacrificing cows, ox and buffaloes for Bakri Eid and warned of strict action against offenders. A task force had also been formed in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) zone and taluks of the city to prevent cattle slaughter during Bakri Eid, as reported.

“Our sole aim is the protection of ‘Gau Mata’. Illegal slaughter houses in Karnataka must cease to exist. There are plans to create self-reliant ‘Gaushalas’ in the state. It has been decided to produce gobar gas (biogas) and give farmers Rs 2 per kg cow dung. We are seriously discussing this issue,” said Chauvan, as quoted.
