Karnataka: Multinational Companies Will Be Required To Display Number Of Kannadigas They Employ, Says Minister— Here's All About It

In a controversial development, Karnataka's Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi has announced plans to mandate multinational companies (MNCs) to publicly display the number of Kannadigas they employ on their premises.
The announcement came during a discussion on the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development (Amendment) Bill in the Legislative Council, reported Deccan Herald.
The bill, which requires businesses to have 60 per cent of their signage in Kannada, was recently passed in the Assembly.
"Multinational companies will be required to display the number of Kannadigas employed on notice boards at their campuses. Failure to comply with the language requirement may result in the cancellation of licenses, as stated by the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government," Tangadagi said, news agency ANI reported.
He also highlighted efforts to strengthen Kannada usage in various sectors, including the judiciary, where initiatives are underway to facilitate judgments delivered in Kannada and encourage advocates to argue in the language.
Furthermore, the government has developed a dedicated app to enable citizens to report instances of Kannada language disrespect.
Regarding requests by some members to withdraw cases against pro-Kannada activists, Tangadagi assured that these suggestions would be carefully considered.
