Member of Parliament from Pilibhit and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi has written yet another letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. This time Gandhi's letter is directed at Yogi on the incident of violence that took place in Lakhimpur Kheri in UP.

Gandhi has been in the news for the position he has taken on the ongoing agitation on issues related to agriculture in UP in continuation of the farmers' agitation against the proposed farm bills from the centre. Uttar Pradesh is a BJP-ruled state going to assembly polls in 2022.

Gandhi has stated that he pays homage to the farmers who have lost their lives in the incident in Lakhimpur Kheri. He has also requested CM Adityanath to take strict action.

He said in the letter that the incident has taken place just a day after Gandhi Jayanti (2 October).

He has urged Adityanath to handle the situation in the most sensitive way, in a Gandhiwadi and a democratic manner within the Constitutional boundaries. He also urged Adityanath to provide the kin of the farmers killed a sum of Rs 1 crore. Gandhi requested Adityanath to handle the situation with patience and take strict action.

Gandhi had earlier written posts on Twitter on the sugarcane prices in the state. In one of his posts on Twitter, he had shared a letter written to Adityanath, urging him to increase the price of sugarcane to Rs 400 per quintal.

The Adityanath government has hiked the price of sugarcane by Rs 25 per quintal in the purchase. Priyanka Gandhi and Rakesh Tikait had reacted to the increase in the price of sugarcane by Adityanath with the same demand as Varun Gandhi. Priyanka Gandhi had described the hike made in sugarcane prices by Adityanath as falling short of expectations.

Priyanka Gandhi was detained early on Monday, 4 October, by the Uttar Pradesh police while she was heading to meet the families of the farmers killed in the violence during an anti-farm laws protest.

She has shared a video clip on Twitter where she said "Bhajpa sarkar kisaano ko kuchalne ki rajneeti kar rahi hai, kisaano ko khatam karne ki rajneeti kar rahi hai (the BJP government is doing politics of crushing the farmers and finishing the farmers)".
