Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Nitin Gadkari Among Eight Union Ministers In Fray As First Phase Voting Begins - Here's All You Need To Know

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections begin today (19 April) with the first phase of voting in 102 constituencies of 21 states. Along with them, 92 Assembly constituencies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim will vote too.
All constituencies of Arunachal Pradesh (2), Manipur (2), Meghalaya (2), Uttarakhand (5) and Tamil Nadu (39) will vote today.
Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Puducherry, who have only one parliamentary seat each, will also vote today.
Other than them, five constituencies each of Assam and Maharashtra and one constituency each of Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura and Chhattisgarh will vote today.
Voting will be held in four constituencies of Bihar, three of West Bengal, six of Madhya Pradesh, eight of Uttar Pradesh and 12 of Rajasthan.
Fortune of eight Union Ministers including Nitin Gadkari contesting from Nagpur, Kiren Rijiju from Arunachal West and Sarbananda Sonowal from Assam's Dibrugarh will be decided today.
Union Ministers of State Sanjeev Balyan and Jitendra Singh are seeking a third term from Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar and Jammu-Kashmir's Udhampur respectively.
Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav is contesting from Alwar, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal from Bikaner and Union Minister of State L Murugan from Nilgiris.
The other high-profile seats include sons of senior Congress leaders who are seeking a second term in their fathers' respective bastions.
Former Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath's son Nakul Nath is contesting in Chhindwara and P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram in Sivaganga.
