In a recent development, tech giant Apple is currently engaged in advanced discussions with Indian conglomerates Murugappa Group and Titan to potentially assemble and produce sub-components for the camera modules used in iPhones.
As reported by Livemint, this development, could signify a significant shift in Apple's operations, moving away from China towards India.
As of now, Apple does not have any Indian suppliers for the critical camera module component in its smartphones.
Partnering with either Titan or Murugappa Group could help fill this gap.
The potential deal is expected to be finalized within the next five to six months.
Murugappa Group, particularly with its acquisition of Moshine Electronics, holds a strategic advantage in this space.
The group's presence across various sectors, including auto parts and abrasives, coupled with its recent acquisition, positions it well for potential collaboration with Apple.
On the other hand, Titan, a Tata Group company known for precision manufacturing in watches and jewelry, brings its own expertise to the table.
While the negotiations have not been officially confirmed by Apple, Murugappa Group, or Titan, the reported discussions indicate a significant opportunity for India to become a key player in Apple's supply chain.
