Madhya Pradesh Congress To Launch A 'Kamal Nath Sandesh Yatra' In A Bid To Connect With Backward Castes

The Madhya Pradesh unit of the Congress party is embarking on a new initiative to connect with people in the backward castes. The launch of the ‘Kamal Nath Sandesh Yatra’ is scheduled for June 15 (Thursday), reportedly in an attempt to culminate in a demonstration of strength rally in the Assembly constituency of the state's Home Minister, Narottam Mishra.
The yatra will begin with a flag-off from the party's state headquarters on June 15. Former CM Kamal Nath will head the start of the yatra, leading it through 10 districts in the Bundelkhand region, targeting around 23 lakh people.
Damodar Singh Yadav, Vice-president of MP Congress Committee and executive president of Madhya Pradesh Congress Backward Classes Department, has reportedly played an instrumental role in planning the yatra. More than 50 public meetings are to be held in 25 Assembly constituencies across the 10 targeted districts during the 12-day yatra.
Notably, the campaign also aims to focus on the defeat of Home Minister Narottam Mishra during the elections. Further, through the yatra, the party aims to showcase the work done during the erstwhile 15-month government of the Congress for the backward castes of Madhya Pradesh.
Party sources have also reported that the upcoming yatra aims to draw attention to the issue of the Kamal Nath government's previous decision to provide 27% reservation to backward classes, which the BJP government did not implement.
Additionally, the party plans to intensify its criticism of BJP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan's flagship Ladli Behana Yojana scheme, while promoting Kamal Nath's campaign promises like the Nari Samman Yojana (which offers Rs 1,500/month to women), low-cost LPG cylinders for all households, cheap electricity (Rs 100 for 100 units), and the restoration of the old pension scheme (OPS).
The yatra will seek to highlight the importance of these initiatives while scrutinizing the current government's performance, as per reports.
