Mayawati And Her Six Former BSP MLA - How Congress May Have Fresh Trouble On Its Hands In Rajasthan

Bahujan Samajwadi Party supremo Mayawati comes into focus amid the growing turmoil within the Congress in Rajasthan, where the situation became worse after Sachin Pilot's revolt. Congress is trying to keep its tally safe and tied together.

This is where Mayawati comes in. Six MLAs of the BSP had joined Congress last year, causing the party a setback.

The MLAs had met Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi, to hand him over a letter before moving on -- from providing outside support to the Congress, to formally joining the party. They were believed to be in touch with Ashok Gehlot then. This event had taken the Congress tally up. It stands at 107 today in the house of 200.

BSP has said that it may go to court to stop the MLAs from voting with the Congress.

The party had gone to the Election Commission last month, asking the Chief Election Commissioner to stop the six ex-BSP MLAs who had joined Congress last year, to vote as Congress MLAs. This happened in the midst of the poaching threats to MLAs from Congress, BJP and others, days ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls.

BSP was pointing out that there was neither Congress-BSP merger at the national level nor at the state level. BSP's efforts did not help.

With the battle intensifying within the Congress after the removal of Pilot from the post of Deputy CM and state Congress chief, BSP has now said that it may challenge Congress in the court on the matter. The decision is expected to be taken later today.

This could cause Gehlot some trouble.

Though Gehlot appears to be in a better position than Pilot in terms of numbers, he reportedly seems "unsure" of the situation and could be inching towards a floor test. Pilot had claimed the support of 30 MLAs. The role of the six MLAs will be crucial to Gehlot in case of a floor test.
