Modi Government Set To Unveil Ambitious 'Vision 2047' Document Ahead Of 2024 Elections

NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam has revealed that India's comprehensive vision document, aimed at propelling the nation into developed status, is in its final stages.
The draft is expected to be ready by December, with a public release planned in the next three months, as per reports by Indian Express.
This forward-looking document represents the collective efforts of ten sectoral groups of secretaries (SGoS) from various ministries, who have meticulously crafted visions around key themes such as infrastructure, welfare, commerce and industry, technology, and governance over a span of almost two years.
While specifics of the draft vision document have not been disclosed, Subrahmanyam indicated that it will delineate the sectors and technologies India should lead in by 2047, along with the necessary institutional and structural reforms.
Subrahmanyam elaborated on the SGoS process, which commenced in December 2021, with guidance from the Ministry of Finance.
The ten SGoS, focusing on themes spanning rural and agriculture to security and foreign affairs, engaged in extensive consultations with think tanks, research institutions, industry chambers, and export promotion councils.
NITI Aayog, recognising the significance of global megatrends shaping the world by 2050, considered factors such as evolving demography in India and Africa, income polarization, climatic challenges, and disruptive technological and geopolitical shifts in shaping the vision documents.
In a bid to align states' vision documents with the national vision document, Subrahmanyam acknowledged the need for NITI Aayog to play a role in this endeavor, especially since most states are formulating their vision documents for the next five years, whereas the national vision spans a much longer timeframe.
Subrahmanyam also highlighted the need for significant restructuring of government processes, both horizontally and vertically, to adapt to the dynamic changes anticipated by 2047.
Notably, the government has enlisted the consulting firm BCG to assist in preparing the 'Viksit Bharat @ 2047' document, an initiative first envisioned by Prime Minister Modi in December 2021.
