A controversy has erupted in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad district after a 22-year-old Muslim man applied for conversion to Hinduism.

Amusingly, the man's wife has claimed that he wants to convert in order to marry a Hindu woman and to avoid a triple talaq case and 'love jihad' charges.

The man, Aamir Ali, has requested security from the district magistrate (DM) due to concerns of potential attacks from members of his community.

According to DM Shailendra Kumar Singh, there is no legal requirement for permission from an officer when adults willingly choose to change their religion.

However, in this case, the man's wife has also submitted an application, alleging that her husband is manipulating the existing laws.

The DM has instructed the additional district magistrate (ADM) and the senior superintendent of police to investigate the matter and determine the truth before taking any action.

Aamir Ali, a sales executive at a private firm in Ghaziabad, resides in the Prince Road area under the jurisdiction of Mughalpura Police in Moradabad.

According to Amit Kumar, the incharge of Mughalpura Police Station, they have been informed that he applied for permission to convert, but they have not received any orders regarding this.

To ensure security, a police constable has been stationed outside his residence.

On Tuesday, Gulphansa, Ali's 19-year-old wife who has a four-month-old daughter with him, spoke to the media and revealed that her husband has been involved with the Hindu woman since 2014.

Gulphansa shared her experience, stating that she discovered her husband's relationship six months after their marriage in February 2022.

Following her objections, he assured her that he would distance himself from the other woman.

However, the girlfriend has threatened to label their affair as a case of 'love jihad'.

Gulphansa mentioned that her family would file a case against him under the triple talaq law if he divorces her.

It is important to note that triple talaq, the Islamic practice of divorce by pronouncing 'talaq' three times, has been made illegal and a criminal offence in India.

Seeking intervention in the matter, Gulphansa sent a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, appealing to him as a daughter and hoping for his assistance in protecting her.

She mentioned that she was currently staying with her parents because Aamir had become unreachable. His phone was switched off and his house on Prince Road was locked from the outside.
