Nepalese MP Sarita Giri Sacked For Opposing Inclusion Of Indian Territory In Country's Revised Map

Lawmaker, member of Parliament and member of Nepal's Samajbadi Party, who has faced attacks for her stand against the constitutional amendment to revise the national map of the country, could face removal as MP. She is set to be sacked from the party.

The recommendation for the sacking of Giri has come from party general secretary Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav. He has said that Giri be sacked as a lawmaker and the party member. There is a task force working under Sahay.

The task force decided earlier on Tuesday (7 July) that Giri will be removed from the party.

The meeting of the officer bearers of the party took the decision accordingly on Tuesday, said Bishwodip Pandey, deputy head of the party's Publicity Department, reports Kathmandu Post.

Giri is under fire for defying the party's decision to unanimously endorse "the constitutional amendment to revise the national map of the country."

She has not only defied the party's stand and decision but is reported to have registered an amendment to the constitutional amendment bill from the government in Nepal's Parliament.

Giri has been vocal on her stand on the amendment to the bill she has sought -- in order to retain the earlier map in the national emblem.

She has stood her ground on the matter of claiming Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani as part of Nepal, arguing that there has been no evidence to prove the claim. So much so, Giri has refused to withdraw her amendment and the threats of internal action have not deterred her.

She has refused to withdraw the amendment.

Nepal's Samajbadi Party is yet to submit its decision to the Parliament Secretariat and the decision is yet to be sent to the Election Commission.

Amar Ujala has reported that Giri has clearly mentioned that the amendment from the government comes under China's influence.

She has been vocal on Nepal's relations with India and claimed that people of Nepal do not want any disagreement or dispute with the people of India on the map. She has said that Nepal must create a dialogue with China and India on the matter.

India has raised strong objections to the inclusion of the disputed areas of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura (Uttarakhand), by Nepal, as part of its territory.

The development comes amid Nepal PM and Communist Party of Nepal leader KP Sharma Oli's strong anti-India stance.

Last month, when the Nepal Parliament was preparing to vote on the constitutional amendment towards the change of approval of the new political map, Giri made the defying move -- of registering her amendment to dissolve the bill for the reinstatement of the old map.

She was warned of action then. The action would mean her expulsion.
