India’s fourth Vande Bharat express, expected to hit the rail tracks this week, is likely to be pressed into service for election-bound Himachal Pradesh from Delhi.

Manufactured at Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai, the train is slated to start its onward journey on 8 October (tomorrow) and scheduled to reach Delhi on 10 October.

The newly-built trainset is ready to roll out from the Chennai factory any time as everything is ready now, said a senior ICF official.

As per the schedule, the 16-coach semi-high speed train would come to Delhi first and then it would be put on a short trial for three days on the proposed Delhi-Una route covering Chandigarh.

Though the fourth rake does not require a safety clearance from the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) there would be a mandatory route trial for two to three days to ensure OHE, track and other essentials are in order.

There are two possible sections — Delhi-Kalka and Delhi-Una and both routes would cover Chandigarh.

After the trials runs, a final route would be announced for launching the semi-high speed train for the hill state.

The third Vande Bharat with improved amenities is currently running successfully in Mumbai-Gandhinagar sector.

Before commissioning the third Vande Bharat into service, the second version of the semi-high speed train had gone through extensive trials to get the CCRS clearance.

The fourth Vande Bharat train is likely to be flagged off in Himachal Pradesh.

While the first Vande Bharat train was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and pressed into service for Varanasi from the capital, the second rake is operational between New Delhi-Katra.

According to the railways, Vande Bharat Express trains would be soon rolled out in all parts of the country.

The new Vande Bharat train has innovative features which make it a world-class train.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had set a target to make 75 Vande Bharat trains on the 75th anniversary of India’s independence. Keeping up with the PM’s vision, 75 Vande Bharat trains would be manufactured and rolled across the nation before 15 August 2023.
