News Brief
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. (X)
Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday (28 March) extended Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's remand to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) till 1 April in the liquor policy case.
This comes after the ED sought his custody for another seven days citing the examination of the digital data extracted and that they need to confront Kejriwal with some individuals.
Representing ED, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju accused AAP leader Kejriwal of giving evasive replies to the agency's questions and "deliberately not cooperating."
In response, Kejriwal alleged that the liquor scam actually began after the ED started investigating. He said that the "motive of ED is to crush the Aam Aadmi Party" (AAP), LiveLaw reported.
On Kejriwal's question is there enough evidence to arrest a sitting CM, Raju said, "There are no different standards for a CM. Right to arrest a CM is no different from an ordinary man."
Yesterday, Kejriwal did not get any relief from the Delhi High Court on his plea challenging the arrest by the ED and six days remand and the next hearing was scheduled for 3 April.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED in the liquor policy case on 21 March after he skipped nine summons issued by the agency in the case. He was then sent to ED custody till 28 March.
